These earrings are copper with sterling silver ear wires. The "draped" look is created by corrugating the metal and then selectively pinching the folds at certain points (called "smocking") to create this beautiful effect reminiscent of draped fabric. The way light and shadow accentuate the folds is wonderful. The copper is very thin (and strong thanks to the folds) and as a result these earrings are very lightweight! The copper has been sealed with a clear coat to prevent tarnishing.
